Red Hot Chili Peppers Venice Rooftop Show

Red Hot Chili Peppers Venice Rooftop Show

The moment I started the Venice Project, I have waited for a true artist to come about and show themselves to me. Let me in on this special area and let me promote you so you can make it. This band, needs no promoting, needs no introduction, for they are the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

It was a lonely Saturday; not much to do…for I had just moved here. I was on Facebook and saw that my roommate posted on his status that they were playing across from muscle beach at 530…it was 4. I grabbed my lens off we went. Bicycle, check; 300mm lens check, 50 polarized check, off we go.

The good thing is…I live a mile from where they were filming. I biked to Muscle Beach…camera in hand…smiling as I saw the large crane. Oh lala…I saw mic stands on a roof. I am here. At this point I am probably the only one in Venice knowing this show is going to happen; except for the groupie’s waving at the friends that passed by. Grinning the devious grin as they thought they would fuck the famous…who knows.Memory Faded. Music Played. Camera Snapped. Snapped Some More. This Angle Sucks. Too Many People…This is what came out of chaos that is a music video in the middle of Venice Beach by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Venice Project: David Smith

Posted on Jul 18, 2011 in Projects

Meet David Smith, one of the best guitarists I have ever heard on Venice Beach. Here is what he has to say. Listen to this song by David while you read his story and check out the pictures.

“I’m the Bob Dylan no one’s ever heard of. Doubt me? Fuck you…

So why have I been reduced to living in a van down by the ocean; playing music on the streets for the last six years?

It could be that I’m delusional about my talent.

I’ve documented everything: The daughter I left behind to the bewitching Raven who fell in love with a crooning pauper despite her wiser intentions; my fierce dedication toward the craft at hand to a ceaseless self-destructive nature; and from a large, loving, Chicago family to the fettered flock of disenfranchised, damaged, souls who have come to these same western shores to surrender.

I have survived the 9 to five world for 36 years; I’m done, and willing to live void of life’s simplest comforts, and ultimately without my Whale-of-a-Great-White-Buffalo-Faithful-Ford-Van. Hoping my daughter might see all I have as the best that I can do.

David Smith was born the youngest of six on Chicago’s northwest side. Being, predominately, a product of the 70s where guitar was a religion, David built his life around music and worlds. In his 46 years he was written countless songs and poetry, two novels, and a second memoir.”

Venice Project: Vinny V3D

Posted on Jul 18, 2011 in Projects

WARNING: May need 3D Glasses for full effect.

Vinny V3D is an abstract artist who specializes with paint and tonalities to make a true 3D image come alive. At first, these look like simple splatter pieces, but after wearing the 3D glasses and going through Vinny’s Art Walk in Venice beach, I was blown away.
So amazed, I later bought two pieces that now hang in my room. Vinny also makes custom art deco and apparel.

I urge you all to go down to 811 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, CA 90291…aka Venice Beach…and support local artists like Vinny.

More to come on the Venice Project.

P.S. Took a few frames of Vinny and his business partner then treated the photographs in a similar way that Vinny does with tonalities to make the 3D effect. The last two shots are the pieces that I bough from Vinny.
